Personal Update

When was the last time you did something for the first time? It's great question to ask yourself! We celebrate "first's" a lot around here, and although it's not a biggie, today is the first time Lyndon and I have worked together on a newsletter from different states.  I'm currently in Adelaide and Lyndon's at home and we're working together online - love modern technology!

Chamber EventThe last few weeks have been mostly spent on the upcoming book, however I've been out and about, pictured here at a recent Chamber of Commerce event at Andrew McDonald Commercial, with Terri Rindfleish and Ben Jenkins from JR RIchards.  Ben was visiting from their Tuncurry office as they've been so busy looking after all our (Dubbo and surrounds) recycling!

I spoke at the ICF Australasian Conference (International Coach Federation) yesterday at the beautiful, and eco-friendly Adelaide Convention Centre.  Another first for me!  I hosted a 3/4 day workshop for coaches in their first 5 years of business and we really enjoyed the day together as I shared from my experiences in building a successful coaching practice in a short space of time with far more passion than business know-how. Their enthusiasm and participation throughout the day was so encouraging, and their feedback at the end of the day was amazing.  (I just can't believe I didn't get photo's with people!)

The ICF conference continues as I stay with a friend and work on the final pages of the book, and the fiddly bits and pieces of layout, and I look forward to reconnecting with friends old and new at the ICF dinner tomorrow night.

Charyn & KateI'm staying with Charyn Youngson, author of Sold For Top Dollar, which will be published internationally in early November, along with my book, Lifting the Lid on Quiet Achievers - Success Stories of Regional Entrepreneurs. We are delighted to be sharing the writing/publishing journey and to have both been accepted for international distribution in the past week is something to Celebrate! I took this photo of Charyn and her daughter Kate, this morning as we all stopped for a coffee break.

Today Success tip is the result of my pondering about the ICF conference and reflecting on the book - I hope you find it useful and inspiring.

Have an awesome week!

Cheering you on,

Kerrie (on behalf of the team)

PS. Look out for our next newsletter with updates on the book and other news from Adelaide, Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo and many places in between!

Success Tip

Valuable learning - is your client base broad?

So many people get into business because of their passion, then struggle with the practicalities of actually making the business work. I've discovered that if the passion is there, the business skills can be learned - I am constantly in the learning zone myself and love sharing my discoveries, especially if others find it useful and time-saving!

An exciting opportunity to learn has been unfolding as I write and edit my upcoming book, Lifting the Lid on Quiet Achievers - Success Stories of Regional Entrepreneurs. I have discovered and been reminded of many essential business tips and "must-know's".  Roger Fletcher (Fletcher International Exports) discusses the danger of having a major client... simple really. If you have a client buying 50% of your product, taking up 50% of your time, you could be treading on dangerous ground.

It can be exciting, and easy, to have a client who pays large regular amounts, but what happens when their circumstances change? I've made this mistake myself, several years ago giving most of my time to a major client - where I was well paid, made some significant connections across Asia Pacific, and learned so much.  I don't regret this season in my business, but I certainly saw that when that period was over, due to my choice to move on, it took a while to rebuild to the same kind of economic stability.

The key thing is to look at questions such as, where your work is coming from, how diverse is your offering, how many products do you have within your niche... keep exploring options!  Diversifying is powerful, and I can't wait to share Rogers thoughts in the book, along with many other useful, inspiring and essential tips and resources in Lifting the Lid on Quiet Achievers!
