Personal Update

It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives.  Samuel Johnson

Our newsletters are usually so full of exciting updates, and todays comes with an equally heart-felt, but painful update.  Last weekend we - family, friends and the wider community lost a great friend in a tragic accident.   After Danny's funeral yesterday I came home and opened a page where this quote jumped out at me...

It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. - Samuel Johnson.

Danny Bower lived life well, and hundreds of people paid their respects and shared memories of this larger than life, wonderful father, husband and friend.  Andrew Mowat and Kerrie PhippsDanny loved to "have a crack" at things and discover what's on the other side of having a go.  One of his significant "have a crack at it" moments was his decision to leave stable employment and go into business for himself.  He succeeded in building a well respected business in Dubbo and he was held in high regard in the sporting community also - wherever he went really.  He naturally and easily endeared himself to others by being himself.   Our hearts are with his beautiful family, especially Cassie, Brad, Mitch and Kate.

We were in Melbourne weekend before last for a business planning weekend with Joanna Martin and her team, and we were so focused on the planning we forgot to pull out the camera! We connected with Andrew Mowat when we first arrived and Lyndon took this snap in front of the beautiful train station.  The architecture in Melbourne is gorgeous!

Not far from Melbourne we saw such a change from our last trip 6 weeks ago.  The blackened trees from the February bushfires are now bursting with life as you can see below.

Thank You to all those lovely people who gave us feedback on our last newsletter - it felt a bit of a risk to post that "close to home' video, so the comments like "that was so moving" and "it was the best I've seen" were a great encouragement!  As for the fun we included in it - we returned to it a few times ourselves to cheer up during what was one of the most difficult weeks we've faced.  So if you need a smile today (it's good for your brain, for creativity and problem-solving) take a moment to choose your focus, be it fun or purposeful (or both) and consider the success tip below from the lovely Jeremy Lim.

Cheering you on,

Lyndon and Kerrie

Success Tip

Jeremy LimToday's success tip comes from Jeremy Lim.

Young Ambassador of the Children's Medical Fund and freelance writer, Jeremy Lim, is a 16-year-old boy who has 'Brittle-bones' Disease. His numerous achievements and positive attitude despite his daily challenges has attracted media attention all over the world.

How has your disease changed your perception and outlook on life and what advice would you give to another young person who is battling serious challenges in his/her life?

My perception of life is that it is transient and should not be taken for granted. It should be lived meaningfully. We cannot control the length of our lives but we can control their breadth, depth and height.

If things are holding you back there are a number of things that you should do in order to overcome them. The first is to be grateful that you have challenges. Your challenges are meant to make you better not bitter. If there are no battles how can there be victories? If there is no rain how can you enjoy the awesome sight of a rainbow? The next thing is to take responsibility for your challenges and face them head on. The challenges you attack will teach you patience, perseverance and self-discipline. They will build your character and strengthen your self-belief.

Finally, don't give up hope. There will be times when the only thing that goes off according to plan is the alarm clock. There is always another chance if you look at things positively and in the right perspective. And whatever your challenges are never indulge in self-pity! It is a waste of time and nobody appreciates it.

Jeremy Lim also featured in our very first Create the Life Club newsletter, which, upon reflection we're quite proud of!  Thanks for sharing the journey with us as we learn so much about using the internet to bring a little encouragement, inspiration and support to big thinkers wherever they are!  Especially if you're in a regional or isolated area, we love that we can connect with you, and connect you to like-minded people.  This theme will emerge more fully in the days to come, so stay tuned, especially if you feel like a big fish in a small pond sometimes, or want to know that someone believes in you!  Exciting events to be unveiled very soon... (and not just on the internet!)

Out and About

One of our valued members, Felicity Newton and her colleagues at Western Student Connections, hosted their annual Careers Expo last week at the Dubbo Showground. Felicity asked me to come along and inspire a few young people.  Well I was inspired by the students I spoke with!

A few fabulous high school students went home with a free copy of Create the Life Journal, promising to write about their goals and ideas.  Lyndon came across a raving fan and took this lovely impromptu video.  Well done Kay, and thank you!
