Another exciting fortnight passes by, and if you saw our last newsletter you know that Ethan won a couple of ribbons at his first-ever swimming carnival and was selected for the regional carnival. So we spent another day at the pool with laptop, books and phone, and during his races walked alongside with the video camera, heart in throat. We were delighted for Ethan that he came third in Backstroke, his favourite stroke, and thought that was that. But no, he bounced through the door last Tuesday afternoon to announce that he’s qualified for the State carnival and he’s off to Sydney next week!
Although I’ve never been a champion in the sports arena, I love hearing the stories of successful athletes and being inspired by their commitment, determination and focus, which is relevant in all areas of life. So our success tip today comes from an amazing young Australian athlete. (see below)
I spent an awesome weekend in Sydney with my friend Maree Carter, staying with my Grandparents who have just celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary, and still live in their own home. When we arrived at 8.20am, Grandad was out mowing the lawn and looking years younger than 92. They’re a beautiful picture of enduring love, and a whole lot of fun to be with!
When asked by some young diners near them at a restaurant recently, what was their secret of a long and happy marriage Grandma said "Well I think when they came back from the war (WW2), he didn't want any more fighting". Sounds like a choice to me, as happiness usually is!

We had so much fun and were learning every second of the day that I completely forgot to get the camera out until most of our friends had left (sorry you missed the photo guys!) Here we are with Joanna and a new friend, Phil, who introduced himself to me in the morning with such lovely enthusiasm – I know we’ll be talking more soon. I will write more in the blog (left side of the page) within the next 24 hours, and share a video Maree and I did at Central Station on the way home.
I'm also delving into the "Theoretical Foundations of Coaching" with David Rock and the Results Coaching team, which is a fabulous intellectual stretch. Meanwhile Lyndon is discovering more amazing tools and getting great results online, and sharing the learning with members and clients who are now calling to say "Kerrie, can I please speak with Lyndon?" He's always been a fountain of random knowledge and trivia - now he's seeing some outstanding results that make a difference in people's businesses online (and therefore offline too!)

Todays Success Tip comes from Torah Bright. Torah is one of the world's leading female snowboarders. In 2006, she overcame a shoulder injury to finish fifth in the women's halfpipe competition at the Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.
What do you think are the essential qualities or personal attributes of a successful person?
Some humility always goes a long way, as does having enough personal power to make your own decisions. This helps in order to design your own life, and together with a concern for all people can bring success no matter whether it is in our families, neighbourhoods or in the limelight of the world arena – it is all of equal importance, although I do believe that the success of the family unit is the most important thing to work toward. A strong family unit is very important and to be the best wife and mum that I can be is my ultimate dream. Add that to all the other desires of my heart and I think I am going to lead a very busy life!
Who are the role models or mentors that have inspired you and what important lessons have you learnt from them?
My parents have certainly had a huge effect on me and my values as they relied on the teachings of Jesus Christ to guide us. They’ve always said that they teach us correct principles so that we can govern ourselves. The five Bright kids have also taught each other many things about cause and effect, and the consequences of our decisions. We are just a normal everyday family, far from perfect, with all the problems that families have, but the main thing that we have is the knowledge to be able to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward.
What is it like knowing that you are a role model to thousands of other young women?
It is a purpose that keeps me going. I am very conscious of what sponsor- ships I take on and what media I do to make sure that I promote a healthy, drug-free, values-centered lifestyle that is great fun as well.
