Personal Update

The School Holidays have passed by quickly, as they do, in a blur of activity with some unexpected moments thrown in.

We travelled out to Gilgandra with Lyndon’s parents on the long weekend, (4, 5 and 6 October) for the Coo-ee Festival, an annual event celebrating the Coo-ee March, (from Gilgandra to Sydney in 1915 enlisting troops for World War 1.  It rained too heavily for Ross, Greg (Kerrie’s Dad & brother) and Lyndon’s parachute display, but not too much to stop the fun.  Lyndon came third in the Coo-ee calling competition and won some shopping money for me (hee hee) and Ross had plenty of people lining up for rides on his WW2 Harley Davidson. Traveling further North on the Sunday we arrived at the base of the Warrumbungle mountains, for the Arthur Butler Memorial Fly-In, at Tooraweenah, which drew hundreds of people to celebrate the achievements of Arthur Butler, an influential and world record setting aviator, who established Butler Air Transport in Tooraweenah in 1934

We arrived back in Gilgandra in time for Bethany Simons play “The Weather, and Your Health” which was absolutely wonderful – if it comes to a venue near you, don’t miss it!

We also enjoyed the Western Plains Zoo on another perfect Spring day with one of Ethan’s friends, and started unpacking in our lovely new South Dubbo home.

Our lives were turned upside down with a phone call to say that Kerrie’s brother was on his way to Dubbo in an Ambulance, following an accident at work.  He’s now in a stable condition and recovering well with excellent care from the all the medical staff he’s encountered here in Dubbo Base Hospital.  Thanks to all those who have sent their regards and best wishes to David and the family.

In our travels and phone calls we’re getting some great feedback from members about Create the Life Club and look forward to making available more great features and offers.  We love tapping into so much inspirational and useful information from successful people and are delighted to be sharing it with others on a learning, growing journey.  We’ll be introducing you to some of our members soon, so stay tuned for more inspiration!

This week’s Success Tip comes from someone I really relate to.  Enjoy!

What advice can you offer other women about balancing family and professional life?

Marry a good man!

On a serious note, I find that life is an ongoing balancing act. There is a constant need to re-adjust my priorities so as to not neglect my business, my husband, my children, my family, my friends and myself. As a business owner I am totally in charge of my time, and time management skills are essential.

I recommend outsourcing everything that you don't want to do - get a housekeeper who can iron, cook and tidy your home for reasonable rates; a dog washer; a lawn mower man; and get your groceries delivered.

Wellbeing - stay healthy, exercise and see health practitioners regularly. I consult a great naturopath, acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist and chiropractor regularly to maintain good health and prevent health issues.

Plan and play - it is very important to work out how much business activity your relationship and the family can bear. It will be different for everyone. To some degree, business and work decisions should be made from the perspective of what's right for the family, not just what's right for the business or the clients.

I have a production meeting with my husband at the start of every week to work out who is in charge of which activities for the week. I also take regular breaks and work in regular ten to 12-week blocks with at least a week's break in between to provide time for rejuvenating my relationships and myself. Don't let your business pursuits prevent you from staying connected with your loved ones.

Perspective - don't let work overtake your life. Make sure you don't sacrifice too much or you'll burn out and wish you didn't have to work at all.
