Insights From The Kitchen

Insights From the Kitchen.

Life is like cooking; deviate from the recipe every now and then - and see how it tastes.

Now I can follow a recipe like the best of them and I had wanted to be a chef when I was a kid.  (But I wanted a social life, not the hours of a chef.)

At home we cook a lot of Thai food (we love it,  and we know we’ve found a good Thai restaurant when the aroma and taste of the food makes us feel as if we are on the streets of Bangkok).

When Kerrie returned from 2 weeks in Thailand (several years ago) I was so pleased to see her that I said she could pick any restaurant she wanted to go to as a celebration of her return.  Kerrie picked… drum roll please… you guessed it… the local Thai restaurant!

Anyway,  when I was cooking a thai curry the other night, making it the same way I always do; the thought occurred to me “why don’t I deviate… experiment… stray from my usual recipe?”  We were pleasantly surprised by the result.

Life is a bit like that.  Every now and again (or every day if you’re keen), challenge yourself to try something new.  Then life won’t become monotonous.

You never know.  You may just like it.

One of my favourite questions is -
When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Love to hear your comments below… Do you have any Insights From The Kitchen?

Bushfire thoughts Part 3
Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Constant blogging goes on in my head – always thoughts I’d like to share, but obviously they don’t all make it here due to a lot of other ideas I’m taking care of too!  The current themes stem from the bushfires as I’m seeing and hearing a lot of news that provokes more thinking.   So here’s part 3!  Which really is a theme that I’ve written about before, and will do again.

As I’ve kept in touch with what’s happening in Victoria, and around the world as people respond to the “worst ever” bushfires there,  I see how the generosity of one person can spark an idea in another.   For example, on Facebook I noticed a friend had sent a reminder to give blood.  Of course!  I hadn’t thought of that.  There are so many ways we can help, and commenting on these things online or drawing attention to the great things that are happening sparks more ideas and more generous action.

What came to mind is a beautiful verse from the book of Hebrews. “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

What a thought for the week!  What are you doing that spurs people on?

Cheering you on,

Love Kerrie

Inspired About Conversations…
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

What do your conversations sound like? If someone was eavesdropping, would they walk away with a sense of brushing past heaven? How wonderful would that be? I hope people could walk past me and get a touch of heaven.

Picture yourself at a BBQ, what is the tone of the conversation? It’s so easy to get into a conversation about problems, challenges, dramas – whatever you call it. and these things are part of life. But so are solutions! Unfortunately, they often get left out of the conversation. Someone needs to bring them in, make Solutions a welcome friend.

(Are you a tiny bit inspired? I’m getting excited just typing this as it comes to mind. I love thinking happy thoughts! Don’t you?)

So how do we do this, be a little bit of heaven on earth? It definitely takes focus, because we so easily slip into the auto pilot of noticing the problem. Our brains are wired like that, and it’s a good thing, because we can be aware of danger and avoid it, notice things going wrong and address it – finding solutions. But we must decide to! A great friend is one who invites us to adjust our focus, and allows us to invite them to do the same.

Must fly, I’m going to meet someone now and give them a great invitation!

Cheering you on
Kerrie
